ABSTRACT

Presents an overview of the first meeting of a working group on piracy, established by the International Maritime Ogranization (IMO), held at the Organization's headquarters in London on January 14, 1993. Established to fight piracy and armed robbery of ships which had increased substantially in recent years; Incidents reported in South-East Asia, especially in the Straits of Malacca, West Africa and the north-east coast of South America.
