ABSTRACT
Considers the 1994 senatorial election in Virginia, which will pit Lt. Col. Oliver North, a central figure in the Iran-Contra scandal, against Democratic incumbent Charles Robb. The Republican candidate is capitalizing on a recent poll finding that fully 60 percent of Virginians favor retention of the ban on gays in the military, and is hammering Robb for being an early proponent of integrating gays in the armed forces.
