ABSTRACT
The article looks at the scientific properties of plants that are able to survive the harsh conditions winter in the Canadian Prairies and how expert gardeners prepare their plants for the cold. Topics discussed include the research of botanists Pedro Barros, Leonard Perry, and Michael Wisniewski into plants and cold hardiness. Other topics include efforts to use GMO technology to protect large scale crops from sudden cold snaps, a development which could prevent huge monetary losses.
