ABSTRACT
Reports that it took the end of the cold war to make possible the most comprehensive exhibit ever of the French master Henri Matisse, a collection of more than 400 works opening this week at New York's Museum of Modern Art. Russia agreed to lend more than two dozen paintings from two museums, St. Petersburg's Hermitage and Moscow's Pushkin, to round out the show.
