Reports that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) ruled last month that Tavist, sold since 1979 by prescription only, can join about 15 other over-the-counter remedies for the nation's 30 million allergy sufferers. Two versions of the drug, made by Sandoz Pharmaceuticals, will make the switch: Tavist-1, a pure antihistamine, and Tavist-D, a combined antihistamine-decongestant.
