ABSTRACT
Reports that last week, Bao Tong, former Chinese Communist Party chief Zhao Ziyang's top aide and a key reformer before 1989's Tiananmen Square demonstrations, became the highest-level official to be tried in China for more than a decade. Tong has been sentenced to seven years in prison for being a `counterrevolutionary'; Chances for reform in coming months is slim.
