Reports that last week, the Bush administration helped overcome procedural obstacles to further peace negotiations with 76-year-old Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir, making it likely that the Shamir government could soon do exactly what the religious parties have signaled would make them abandon the coalition.
