ABSTRACT
Reports that last week, the Bush administration helped overcome procedural obstacles to further peace negotiations with 76-year-old Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir, making it likely that the Shamir government could soon do exactly what the religious parties have signaled would make them abandon the coalition. Peace appears to have become good politics in Israel; What Shamir needs to do to broaden his appeal; Prediction for next month's Labor Party primary.
