A message from the president of the organization the Illinois State Historical Society is presented. He expresses his thanks for the work of Illinois history teachers, discusses his experiences as a history student and the influence that history teachers had on his education, and examines the challenges facing history teachers during the early 21st century. He discusses the adoption of the curriculum known as the Common Core Standards, and the Illinois Historical Society's Oliver Foster Outstanding Teacher Award.
