ABSTRACT
The study focuses on those ideologies that had in one way or another contributed to the development of the far right mentality in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and that thusly affected, albeit to various extent, the Hungarian far right ideology in the twentieth century. Enthusiastic translators created the Hungarian editions of German, French or even English-language scientific literature. Modern anti-Semitism, which was the basis and a sort of cohesive power of the far right mentality, would have been insufficient in itself. By the beginning of the twentieth century, the far right mentality had been supplemented by a sort of critique of capitalism and a unique answer given to the social challenges of the time. Besides the works of a few authors, (J. A. Gobineau, H. S. Chamberlain), the ideas regarding the implementation of Darwin's theory of evolution into human society were also significant even though they mainly remained on a theoretical level. Additionally, the study tackles the question of eugenics, which was soon entwined with the task of "defending the purity of race" and had a strong anti-Semitic overtone. The study also lists those issues and trials that became not only bases for the contemporary far right, but also points for comparison. The history of the significant anti-Semitic and far right publications and pieces of writing (The Protocols of the Elders of Zion) is also touched upon as well as their influence, which can still be felt today.
