Emergence of a nonuniform pion condensate in the (1 + 1)-dimensional Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model

The (1 + 1)-dimensional Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model describing the system of two-flavor quarks is studied in the limit of a large number of colors in the presence of a baryon chemical potential µ and an isospin chemical potential µ I. The possible formation of a nonuniform pion condensate in dense quark matter is considered for the cases of both the massive and the massless model.
