ABSTRACT
ANIMAL protection groups are dismayed at proposals that would allow dog breeders to legally 'dock' the tails of young pups. Since my own mutt's happy tail is probably my favourite part of him, I'd be very much with the concerned animal-lovers on this one - but it does remind me of an old joke concerning a man who brings his adult dog to the vet and demands he docks his tail. 'The mother-in-law is coming,' he explains, 'and I don't want her to think there's anyone in the house who's happy to see her.'
