ABSTRACT
The article reports on the rise of vehicle protection technology in response to the emergence of improvised explosive device (IED) coupled with the use of rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs) and ballistic threats. It describes the Nexter and Patria vehicles which were designed to allow the operator to add modular armor as threats change through the vehicle's lifetime. It cites the Foxhound derivative, the Ocelot-S, which has classic open-frame special forces bodywork and extensive camouflage.
