ABSTRACT
The article examines role the non-market environment of a firm plays in its capability to gain a competitive advantage and capture value and how environmental regulations affect a firm's strategic actions. It considers the European Union Emissions Trading Scheme, the newly introduced regulatory program for greenhouse gases, and how this affects the rent-seeking behavior of multinational firms and interest groups as they attempt to capture value.
