ABSTRACT
HUGH Powell, 45, son of Thatcher private secretary Charles, nephew of Blair chief of staff Jonathan, is, according to a source, 'a hugely influential force in No10, pressing for intervention in Syria against the view of almost the entire military, intelligence and diplomatic community'. Previously 'Hughie' was a diplomat in Afghanistan, where he was teasingly known as 'viceroy of Helmandshire'. Powell the Younger was at Eton with David Cameron. Small world!
