ABSTRACT
The article comments on news and information regarding the British government and the sciences. Terry Lewis, the Member of Parliament for Worsley, has put down an Early Day Motion on the Commons Order Paper to demonstrate how appalled he and others are that the British Broadcasting Corp. (BBC) intends to repeat a showing of the episode in Around the World in 80 Days in which a snake was disemboweled and skinned alive for the table in front of presenter Michael Palm. "It's great, lovely," is Palm's comment when the cooked animal arrives on his plate. The motion calls on the BBC to omit the offending scene from any future screening. Not only is the admirable Reptile Protection Trust angry at the programme; many member of parliaments are angry at the reaction of Joel Barnett, who has been replying for the BBC's governors, for his calm defense of the episode.
