ABSTRACT
Details some recent studies of captive primates from which primatologists and zoo keepers are discovering that they can dramatically reduce mothers' maltreatment of their infants through a few simple strategies. By providing more livable quarters, allowing other female primates to help out and reduce the stress of parenting, and by exposing inexperienced mothers to good mothers in action; Examples that are catching the attention of pediatricians and social workers.
