A Return to Delphi: Old Wisdom and a Resurgence for Consulting

The article explains that a financial consultant wishes to consider all possibilities in the creation and execution of planning strategies. There is a need for being thorough in the profitable process of delivering client-centric, value-oriented advice. The oracular shrine of Apollo at Delphi was the most prestigious consulting enterprise in the ancient world. Upon payment of a fee, clients submitted questions which were answered by Apollo's medium, a priestess called the Fythia. To leave no stone unturned is advice that transcends two and a half millennia as an admonition to those in pursuit of a worthy goal. To be thorough in a quest is the basis for current trends that underscore a renewed focus on the nature of the financial planning consulting process. People are increasingly wary of hidden agendas and conflicts of interest, such a hawking of equities that may regard as animal droppings so as to gain lucrative investment banking business. Viewing investors and shareholders as sheep to be shorn is unacceptable. Products and asset management services will continue as important tools in the execution of planning strategies. Strategic alliances and strategic networks of planners will play a greater role in the delivery of integrated offerings.
