Seeds of Heliconia bihai L., H. collinsiana Griggs, H. latispatha Bentham and H. psittacorum L. f. were scarified using three methods: seed coat removal, operculum removal, and extraction of the embryo to be germinated in vitro afterwards. The three scarification methods increased the germination percentage in H. collinsiana and H. latispatha seeds. The greatest germination percentage (90%) was observed in H. collinsiana after the embryos were extracted.

In many forage legumes, hard seed coat is the main problem impeding the germination by preventing water and gases transport in seed. We evaluated the effects of mechanical scarification, chilling, different seedbeds (peat and sand) and their combination on the germination ratio and time of 9...

In this paper, we investigated the effect of scarification (scarified and non-scarified seeds) and different cultivation media (peat, cocopeat, perlite and sand) treatments on the seed germination of Cycas revoluta. Dormancy delays and reduces germination. The mechanism of dormancy lies in the...

Young Globba winitii seeds at 20 days after pollination were collected and trimmed at different parts of their seed coat, then cultured on MS medium supplemented with 10 mg/l BA, 1.0 mg/l NAA, 10 mg/l GA3 and 30 g/l sucrose. The results showed that the trimming method could break dormancy, and...
