ABSTRACT
The article offers information on the development of the geograpgic information system (GIS) and geospatial sector of Europe. It states that the role of the National Geographic Institute has been redefined from data producer or gatherer to data integrator and now data broker. It mentions that the project European Location Framework (ELF) will create a technical infrastructure to deliver interoperable, cross-border geographic information by bringing together authoritative national data.
