ABSTRACT
The article focuses on a study conducted by the U.S. Congress investigative arm the Government Accountability Office (GAO), to determine the efficiency of contractors used by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services of the U.S., to conduct postpayment claims reviews. The study found that there were four types of contractors including the Medicare Administrative, Zone Program Integrity, Recovery Auditors and Comprehensive Error Rate Testing, and one million claims were processed in 2012.
