ABSTRACT
Considering the Theory of Social Representations, this research purposes to perceive the working conditions of the teacher from the State of São Paulo Public Instruction, from his own perspective. Have been interviewed seven teachers from a population of fifteen of a State Public School from a town in the São Paulo State west area. The interviews were partially conducted and all subjects are high school teachers. From the founded data, we have identified the following aspects: complaints about low wages; inadequate and insufficient structure; critiques to the Instruction structure centralization and verticalization; students indiscipline and unselfishness. All interviewees define their working environment as discouraging. That situation points the need to discuss if the State consider the real needs of the teachers and what kind of support they receive for their function execution with students distinguished as undisciplined.
