ABSTRACT
This article reports on the likelihood of Spanish membership in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). During Premier Adolfo Suarez's recent visit to Washington, the prospect was raised seriously. An important level of military cooperation was developed between Spain and the United States with the establishment of American air bases in Spain, years ago. The Alliance's strategic and tactical position would be greatly improved by formal adherence to NATO.
