ABSTRACT
ERUDITE readers of The Oldie magazine were excited to welcome bohemian actor Rupert Everett to their literary luncheon at Simpsons-in-the-Strand yesterday. However, pacemakers went into overdrive when Everett, 54, read a passage from his last memoir, Vanished Years, detailing his visit to a nude homosexual nightclub in Berlin where customers engaged in louche behaviour with ping-pong bats. Editor Richard Ingrams spluttered: 'Well, I suppose it makes a change from the usual.'
