ABSTRACT
The article presents a study which describes the impact of climate and age differences of the migratory Red-backed Shrike or Lanius collurio on prey diversity. The researchers have examined the diet of the migratory birds and found no correlation between prey diversity and temperature. The findings indicate the age-and environment-related differences on the Red-backed Shrikes, which feed on preferred prey during warmer summers but are forced to feed on larger species variety in colder summers. The findings suggest that knowledge on limiting factors on the breeding grounds, such as food availability, is important in mitigating population and bird declines.
