ABSTRACT
TAKE a child's temperature in the ear or under the arm. 'These areas correlate well with the body's core temperature,' says NHS paediatrician Dr Ranj Singh. 'We avoid taking it orally because there's a temptation for some children to bite the thermometer.' When it comes to accuracy, 'the gold standard is rectal', he adds — but even medics shy away from this.
