ABSTRACT
The article presents climatological and heat records in the U.S. in 2012. A report from the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) marked 2012 as the ninth hottest year and the 27th year in a row the global average temperature surpassed the 1961-1990 average. Data also show the record/near-record yields in the Mid-South in 2012. Based on the U.S. Climate Extremes Index, 2012 was the second most extreme year on record for the U.S. in terms of temperature, precipitation and cyclones.
