ABSTRACT
The article focuses on detective novels written by female authors with reference to Chilean writer Marcela Serrano's novel "Nuestra Señora de la Soledad." The author stated that detective fiction emerged across Latin America from the end of 19th century with women authors also experimenting and creating new genre. Marcela was the first Chilean author to write a detective novel though she generally focused on social world of women. As stated by critic P. Eric Henager, the detective style in her novel is little different from the conventions of the genre but it is considered a detective novel due to its ending and rereading.
