ABSTRACT
The article discusses the role of voltage-dependent calcium (Cav1) channels in excitable cells. Store-operated calcium channels (SOCC) activity is increased during cardiac stress, and it contributes to Ca 2+ influx and gene expression responsible for cardiac hypertrophy and heart failure. In T-lymphocytes, Ca 2+ ions play a role in the activation of many enzymes such as phospholipase C gamma, and protein kinase C.
