The article considers inventory planning and control by the airline industry. Increases in orders for aircraft parts on an aircraft-on-the-ground basis in which an airplane is repaired at an airport while in service are examined as indications of problems in the industry's inventory management including reluctance of airlines to share demand planning information and the stress generated on supply chains by the need to fill orders rapidly through express service.
