ABSTRACT
The article provides a demographics regarding the nursing and midwifery workforce in Australia. Based on the figures from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW), there are 326,669 nurses in the country in 2011 and that 82% of it are registered nurses. The ageing nursing workforce in the country is also discussed which indicates that 50% of the nurses will be considering retirement in 2023. The trends in the supply and demand of the profession is cited.
