ABSTRACT
The methanol extract of leaves of Annona cherimola (EAC) which contained flavonoids, alkaloids, steroids and carbohydrates was evaluated in-vivo for its anti-inflammatory and analgesic activities. The anti-inflammatory effect was investigated using carrageenan induced paw edema in rats. The peripheral analgesic activity was studied using acetic acid induced writhing test and central analgesic activity through hot plate method. The findings of the study suggested that EAC possess significant dose dependant peripheral, central analgesic, and anti-inflammatory activities. The results are found to be comparable to those of indomethacin, a standard drug. These effects may be attributed to the phytoconstituents present in the extract.
