ABSTRACT
THE new pension is completely unjust (Letters). A lot of people don't yet realise that they won't receive the promised £144 a week. It will create pensioner apartheid. I paid National Insurance contributions for 49 years, much longer than the new requirements, and my wife would love an extra £80 a week. I wonder if the human rights brigade could help us? ROY HUFTON, Brayton, North Yorks. I RETIRED in September 2007 at the age of 60. Since receiving my state pension (my only income) I've had to complete a tax return each year and, until the age of 65, paid income tax on my state pension. I've worked solidly from the age of 18 and have more than paid my fair share of taxes: why should I now be told my pension will be less than anyone else's? I'm not eligible to claim benefits at the moment and, hopefully, will never need to. But my circumstances will probably deteriorate and what do I do when that happens? I thought the Government was trying to get people off benefits.
