ABSTRACT
MAX Irons played a very contemporary role in The Host. But the 27-year-old will be seen in rather more historic surroundings after bagging the lead role in the much anticipated TV drama, The White Queen. A BBC and Starz coproduction, the series is adapted from the bestselling book by Philippa Gregory and is due to debut shortly. Cast as King Edward IV, whose struggle for power in the cut-throat royal court is documented in the first season, the actor said he relished the chance to get his teeth into a new and very different role over a prolonged period of time. Max, who is the son of Jeremy Irons and Irish actress Sinéad Cusack, said: 'After The Host, it's a really nice transition. The Host is a film aimed at 13-year-olds, and it was a 700-page novel that had to be boiled down to a 100-page script, so a lot of corners had to be cut.
