ABSTRACT
In January 2012 in the canton of St. Gallen, Switzerland, a petition “for modern libraries in the canton of St. Gallen (Library Initiative)”, which was signed by over 10 000 people, was submitted. The St. Gallen library initiative aims to achieve a modern, high-quality library supplies to the population in the entire canton. In July 2012 the state government submitted a counter proposal to the library initiative in the form of a library law - the first of its kind in Switzerland. This report presents the development and the experiences in the canton of St. Gallen and the draft of the Law Library St. Gallen.
