ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the efforts of the Grand Lodge of California in opposing a bill introduced by California Assemblyman Roger Hernandez to change "Columbus Day" to "Native American Day." A coalition of 170 Italian American organizations joined the Grand Lodge to oppose the bill. Issues addressed by Grand Lodge president Maria Fassio Pignati about the bill are outlined.
