ABSTRACT
9 The consumer price index eased 0.4% in April from the prior month, when it fell 0.2%. The latest drop was the sharpest since Dec. '08 and was led by a 4.3% tumble in energy costs. Ex food and fuel, prices edged up less than 0.1%. Apparel prices fell for the 3rd straight month. On an annual basis, core consumer inflation slowed to 1.7% from 1.9%.
