ABSTRACT
The author reflects on the reluctance of Wisconsin public officials to address gun violence for fear that they will lose votes of gun lobbyists. He notes that gun business supporters oppose background checks and ban on high-capacity magazines that can prevent killings. Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett paid the price for his anti-gun violence effort when he lost against Governor Scott Walker in the state's 2010 recall election. The periodical "Slate" said there were 3,947 gun deaths as of May 2013.
