ABSTRACT
The article discusses the benefits and pitfalls that accounting firms can encounter when they become part of a tax franchise system. The tax franchise system in the U.S. was started by Henry Bloch in the mid-1950s. He has 10,992 offices, 4,471 of which are franchises. Chief tax officer Mark Steber says that increased regulatory oversight and workforce retention continue to a problem for franchise holders. It is also thought that franchising provides brand name recognition.
