WORLD SAMBA TOURE Albala (Glitterbeat Records) SINGER and guitarist Samba Touré used to play in the band of the late Ali Farka Touré and you can hear the presence of the great Malian bluesman in his music. Touré comes from the Timbuktu region of Mali, which was overrun by Islamists last year, and two of the songs in particular reflect those events. Fondora (Leave Our Road) is a powerful denunciation: "They only brought hatred, violence and sadness." Touré's voice is accompanied by electric guitar, desert lute, fiddle and percussion. Despite the songs about the crisis, this isn't an angry album but a laidback set of nostalgic desert blues.
