ABSTRACT
TOO much salt causes kidneys to retain water and raises blood pressure. The recommended daily allowance of salt in the UK is 6g, and simple dietary adjustments like binning the shaker and experimenting with other flavourings such as dried herbs or chilli are strongly encouraged. Certain foods — such as ketchup — are high in salt, and the switch from £2.45 Heinz organic (0.4g of salt per 15ml serving) to £1.49 Tesco organic ketchup (0.1g per 15ml serving) could make a dramatic difference to your health long-term.
