ABSTRACT
THE BBC's new director of news, ex-Times editor James Harding, wanted a desk in the centre of the BBC's news hub, the backdrop of broadcasts. My source says: 'He was advised this was a bad idea. Beatings, floggings and shouting matches cannot take place while Huw Edwards is reading the news.' It would enliven the lumpen output.
