ABSTRACT
SYLVAIN GEORGES received a strong defence from his team director after failing a doping test at the Giro d'Italia. The 29-year-old, who rides for Nicolas Roche's old team AG2R, pulled out of yesterday's stage after he tested positive for the banned stimulant Heptaminol. 'He thought it was harmless, there was no intention to dope,' said AG2R director Vincent Lavanu, 'but it was a silly mistake.'
