ABSTRACT
THE Bank of England's prediction today of a "modest and sustained" recovery, with growth this quarter of 0.5 per cent, comes at a time of cautious optimism — in London, at least. That was the mood at this paper's debate at Google last night and it is the finding of one poll today, in the wake of last month's figures showing the economy avoided a triple-dip recession. The FTSE and other stock markets continue their strong performance. By contrast, today's eurozone figures for the first quarter of 2013 are gloomy, with the zone's economy shrinking 0.2 per cent and France re-entering recession. That poses risks for the UK recovery.
