The article reports on kickback conspiracies against Sacred Heart Hospital owner and chief executive officer (CEO) Edward J. Novak, who for years had been a fixture in healthcare on the impoverished West Side of Chicago, Illinois. The 58 year old Novak remained in jail on April 19, 2013 on charges of conspiring to defraud Medicare. At least two million U.S. dollars in bank accounts was seized by federal officials, who also arrested four doctors and Novak's chief financial officer.
