ABSTRACT
The article offers a response to the essay "Combat in the Classroom," by Travis Martin which appeared in the journal just before the 2012 Conference on College Composition and Communication (CCCC). It considers Martin's essay in terms of understanding how academic classes impact veteran students' transitions to college through personal narrative assignments. It points out this significant fact as the number of veterans is likely to increase following the end of the Global War on Terror (GWT).
