ABSTRACT
WELSH Rugby Union officials continue to make frantic efforts to prevent George North playing for Northampton next season. This transfer saga took a further twist yesterday when the WRU urged their regional teams to reconsider their policy of refusing to use centrally contracted players. The WRU claim they want to sign North on such a contract to stop him moving to Northampton next season in a £250,000 deal. A statement from the WRU urged the regions to rethink the policy before North, who has a year to run on his contract, joined a host of other leading players in heading outside Wales to play.
