ABSTRACT
The dynamic of the human activities due to the enlargement of the EU space and to the extension of the free movement of persons and goods is responsible for the increasing of traffic flows crossing transport sensitive areas. The nearby presence of industrial areas as well as tourist and cultural heritage attraction points, combined with the specific topography of the road network generate great externalities, mainly noise and exhaust emissions. The case study investigates the influence of the sensitive zone characteristics to the chemical emissions (CO, NOx, VOC and heavy-metals) along Piteşti - Râmnicu Vâlcea roadway, a route exceedingly used by road freight transport and passenger cars for crossing Carpathians.
