ABSTRACT
Due to the increasing needs of lignite as a fuel opencast ,nines are deeper more and more, when are in a situation to be below the level of large river flows and groundwater levels. In order to prevent infiltration of ground water in the mine, drainage systems are made well or wells, and waterproofing systems screen. The use of these drainage facilities causes a change in the natural water regime of the surrounding areas, the consequences of which could be draining the existing water supply wells, deterioration of water quality and soil draining. In this paper the influence of water proof screen in the lignite surface mining on the environment.
