ABSTRACT
The article discusses the importance of doing a background check on new hires for non-profit organizations. Youth protection consultant John C. Patterson suggests that aside from criminal history record checks, background checks should include academic verification and credentializing. A list of things to consider when screening prospective employees includes the mission of the organization, vulnerability of clients and consumers and the specific role that is trying to be filled.
