ABSTRACT
The article discusses the reasons English language teachers are not reactive enough in their teaching. The failure of English language teachers to place enough importance on the dark matter of teaching, that is the unpredictability of the classroom situation, is highlighted. The reasons behind the limited impact of valuing unpredictability on teaching practice are also discussed.
